MFSC Spring 2011 “Les Apaches“: Gilet de Ville (city waistcoat)
Introducing the third installment of our MFSC spring Apaches collection, now available at the Mister Freedom® store in LA and very select retailers around the world.
Inspired by turn of the century to 1930’s French tailor-made gent garb, our Gilets de Ville come in three different fabric options. Woven in Japan exclusively for MFSC, the fabrics were developed from vintage swatches and samples of 100 year old textiles from our archives. They are not replicas, as we changed some yarn colour combinations, tones and texture, giving them our trademark twist. The fabrics are 100% cotton, making them drape and feel the way we wanted. They were a real endeavour to mill and had some people pulling their hair in the process…
You can go Dandy or pair them with your favorite dungarees, mismatch fabrics… according to the mood and the order of the day. (See previous post for some fit pics.)
SPECS:
PATTERN: Original MFSC pattern, inspired by early French tailor-made suiting.
FABRIC: Milled in Japan, in small limited batches.
* GREY COVERT STRIPE: 10 Oz., all cotton, double cloth, 6 different coloured yarns, white selvedge.

* COVERT STRIPE BROWN: 8 Oz., all cotton, 5 different coloured yarns, white selvedge.
LINING: Fully lined with 100% cotton stripe MFSC ticking.
BACK PANEL: Original MFSC Métisse 50% cotton/50% Linen plain weave, indigo dyed and black pigment coated.

DETAILS:
* Limited Edition.

* Two inside concealed chest flap pockets.
* Traditional darted back piece, with cinch back belt. Original french NOS metal sharp-prong buckle (DISCLAIMER: Will scratch car seats, sofas etc…) The buckle is removable and you can switch to one that fits your needs (a “safer” metal buckle, used for the Japanese production, will be found in one of the pockets.)
CONSTRUCTION: Tailor type single needle, no overlock nor chainstitch. 100% Cotton thread, oxidized black/brown colour.
SHRINKAGE: All fabric options are RAW and unwashed, and will shrink and torque lightly with cold delicate wash/hang dry (about 1 to 2%). As you wouldn’t throw a suit in the washer, this gilet de ville, although washable, should be treated with TLC.
PACKAGING: The garment comes in an individual old school chipboard box, exclusive to MF.
The original oil painting was masterfully executed by Mr. PATRICK SEGUI of RIVETED blog fame, and a paper print of his artwork is featured on the Apache Collection box tops.

MISTER FREEDOM® x SUGAR CANE Spring 2011 Collection “Les Apaches”: The long-awaited for MFSC CHEMISE CALICO is here!
No comment on the situation in Japan, I am sure you are following the news as closely as we are. The SUGAR CANE factories have been stoically coping with the tragedy and it is amazing that they have been able to deliver anything at all. Tip of the hat, Sirs.
Elegant shirting is a large part of our MFSC Apaches collection, and without further ado, we introduce the chemise calico in two versions: An indigo blue Calico and a white Calico. Inspired by late 1800’s European cotton printed shirting fabrics and several vintage swatches from MF® Archives, we went back to early techniques of discharge printing to produce these textiles in Japan.

Palladenim® after some wear and sun exposure, August 2013
Introducing the “PALLADENIM”®, a traditional PALLADIUM® shoe design, revisited by MISTER FREEDOM®
For a kid like me, growing up partly in France and Africa, the brand PALLADIUM® meant sneakers (we called them baskettes) and outdoor shoes. Everyone owned a pair…
So when talks about a collaboration MFxP® initiated over a year ago, I had two words: OUI MESSIEURS!… And called my Mum right away…
Flipping through an old cherished photo album my Dad, Gérard Loiron, had put together when doing his two years in the French military in Algeria, I found several shots of him wearing government issued chaussures de brousse. The year was 1956, my Dad was 24, and wearing a pair of Palladium!
Starting in the late 1940’s PALLADIUM® contracted with the French military to supply troops with rugged, functional, durable and comfortable footwear. PALLADIUM® manufactured gym shoes and outdoor boots (the legendary Chaussure Pampa, Pallabrousse…), supplying Légion Etrangère, Armée de l’Air, Marine Nationale…
Non related, but there are a few shots of Steve McQueen wearing his Pallabrousse in the very excellent book “The Last Mile” by Barbara McQueen.
That’s ol’ school enough for me ☺
The “PALLADENIM”® SPECS:
* Inspired by 1950’s Government issued French military chaussure de brousse, the enlisted man jungle boot during the French Indochina and Algerian campaign.
* Traditional PALLADIUM® last, sole and panel pattern.
* Upper made of New Old Stock indigo selvedge denim, 12 oz., origin USA.
* Lining made of vintage NOS 100% cotton stripe twill, origin USA.
* Black vulcanized rubber sole.
* Canvas reinforced eyelet backing.
* Inside lining hand stamped with military style ink size markings.
* Original MFxP® artwork printed sock liner for comfort.
* Original molded MFxP® ankle rubber bumpers.
* 100% cotton olive drab bias taping.
* Original MFxP® rayon woven tongue label.
* Packaged in original MFxP® printed box.
* Small run, limited edition.

Limited Edition Mister Freedom® original “Ninkyo” Tshirt. The FULL amount of your purchase will go to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.
Because the fight is far from over, and I believe in res non verba versus being just speechless in front of the constant and on-going flow of bad news from Japan, here is round two. This is what we cooked up this time:
We hand stenciled 30 custom numbered T-shirts, with original MF® artwork, this time inspired by 60’s propaganda art (Mai ’68in France, Cuba Libre, etc…)
The use of the ninkyo kanji (“an ancient philosophy that values Humanity, Justice and Duty…”) was inspired by an interesting read entitled “Yakuza to the rescue”. Take five, it’s insightful about the often crossed line between Right and Wrong.
Before afterhours bloggers get all excited, I confirm that there is NO political message is this graphic. The only message conveyed is that Japan will need all its will/work power and solidarity to rebuild the mess, especially after the world’s attention gets distracted by other events.
Mister Freedom will be donating ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the sale of each shirt to the American Red Cross, who will properly dispatch the funds to help those affected by the recent 9.0 earthquake in Japan and Tsunami throughout the Pacific. The MF donation for the FULL AMOUNT, $100.00 per shirt, will be made on the day of your purchase, and the official Red Cross receipt will be available on demand.
